A few months back, we reported that the icily synthetic Liverpool quartet Ladytron, along with like-minded freeze-poppers Goldfrapp, might be working with Christina Aguilera on a forthcoming Xtina album. Well, Ladytron's label has confirmed that the group is, in fact, working with her on some songs, and I'm pretty amped at the prospect of an electro Aguilera. Further evidence that 2002 will never die: This spring, Ladytron will tour North America with their compatriots in razor-sharp, tight-black-clothes cocaine synthpop, the Faint. The Omaha crew is one of the best live bands I've seen this decade: glammed-up mannequin types who still remember what it was like to play in hardcore bands and still throw themselves all over the stage with commendable abandon. So this is a good look for Ladytron, whose warmer, gloopier recent material should provide a nice ying to the Faint's yang. When that's done, Ladytron will embark on a possibly even more appropriate jaunt: Opening for Depeche Mode in Eastern Europe!On March 3, Nettwerk will release the Tomorrow EP digitally.
