Kill Hannah frontman Mat Devine is to make his musical debut in Spider-Man: Turn Off The Dark, a lavish Broadway production based on the web-slinging comic book superhero. The show, which features music and lyrics by U2 vocalist Bono and guitarist The Edge, will open in New York in November and, according to Mat, will entertain "even the most sceptical Kerrang! reader"."Musicals in general are incredibly embarrassing," explains the frontman, who will play Spidey-pal Grim Hunter. "I have a low threshold for musical theatre. If it gets a little too camp or cheesy, I'm immediately turned off. But the music is great and I can't begin to overstate how impressive the set is. It's epic and revolutionary!"Mat, who has signed on to appear in the Broadway show for a year, admits he wasn't a comic book fan when he was growing up, yet has had fun catching up with the Marvel series."I love the story," he smiles. "It's universal; it's about a nerdy misfit who has these superpowers. He leads a double life and struggles with issues of how to use what he has. So much of that speaks to musicians - people who have traditional lives for 23 hours a day and for one hour, feel superhuman onstage!" Spider-Man: Turn Off The Dark will open for previews on November 14 at New York City's Foxwoods Theater.
