The Kevin Spacey Foundation has closed down following numerous reports of sexual misconduct and assault by the shamed actor.
Spacey is under investigation by police following recent accusations of sexual misconduct, assault and harassment. Following the claims, Spacey issued a statement, saying that he was “taking the time necessary to seek evaluation and treatment”.
The Kevin Spacey Foundation UK has now announced that it will shut down, effective immediately. “The Trustees have reached the conclusion that the work of the Kevin Spacey Foundation UK is no longer viable and as such the Foundation will be closing on the 28 February 2018,” reads a statement.
“The Trustees would like to thank all their partners, artists and organisations for the great work that has been done in association with the Foundation. The Trustees hope that the objects of the charity will be taken forward by other organisations.”
The Kevin Spacey Foundation UK was set up to help aspiring young actors to achieve their goals. London theatre The Old Vic, where Spacey worked as artistic director for a number of years, recently started a “guardians programme” in the wake of news that Spacey assaulted a number of young actors during his time at the theatre.
The Old Vic, which confirmed back in November that it had received 20 personal testimonies of alleged inappropriate behaviour by Spacey while in his role at the theatre, has said it will establish a “zero-tolerance” policy towards sexual harassment.
