Possible charges over Prince’s death could be announced today

Music icon died in April 2016

Reports suggest that possible charges could be made today (April 19) in relation to Prince‘s death.

Prince died at the age of 57, when he was found alone and unresponsive in his Paisley Park estate on April 21 in 2016. Shortly after his death, it was confirmed that he died from an opioid overdose. The star was found to have fentanyl in his system – which is 50 times more powerful than heroin.

A toxicology report released last month detailed the high level of the drug in his system – which Dr. Lewis Nelson, chairman of emergency medicine at Rutgers New Jersey Medical School, described as “a pretty clear smoking gun”. “The amount in his blood is exceedingly high, even for somebody who is a chronic pain patient on fentanyl patches,” said Dr Nelson at the time.

It was previously reported that the lead prosecutor investigating the music icon’s death was reviewing reports and would make a decision “in the near future” on whether to charge anyone in relation to Prince’s death.

Now, NBC reports that Carver County Attorney Mark Metz has scheduled a news conference for Thursday morning (April 19) in Chaska, Minnesota.

It is expected that there will be an announcement about whether charges have been made following the investigation.
