Nicki Minaj responds to claims her sexual lyrics are ‘hypocritical’

Nicki Minaj has responded to claims her sexual lyrics are “hypocritical”.

The rapper is set to release her new album ‘Queen’ in August, after pushing back its release date from June 15.

In a recent interview with Elle, Minaj discussed how her music “sells sex appeal” and how it influences woman’s view of themselves. She said ‘Queen’ had more of a message of “it being okay to keep your legs closed” and that she didn’t know if she was “doing the same thing” as strippers, Instagram girls and “modern-day prostitutes”. “I might not be having sex with people, but I’m still selling sex appeal,” she said.

One Twitter user called Minaj out for her comments, posting examples of her sexual lyrics and a tweet she had posted about her new single ‘Bed’. “Ok who’s gonna be playing #Bed @ their next dick appointment?” the tweet read.

“Dear Nicki Minaj, Your lyrics are hypocritical,” @MrJeromeTrammel wrote. “You went over to @ElleMagazine to slut shame certain types of women, cause that wasn’t your route (allegedly). People need to STOP trying to dictate & police women & THEIR bodies! If you can’t HELP, don’t HURT!”

The rapper responded clarifying her comments in the interview, writing: “Suck my dick ASSHOLE. Had u read the article, I was critiquing MYSELF more than ANYTHING. What I SAID was: I HOPE my overt sexual LYRYCS & PHOTOS don’t make my fans THINK that I’m telling them to be promiscuous & to know their worth! Lyrics, photos & FUCKING r all 3 diff things.”

She continued further to explain that a woman “can be a “freak” w/her man, sexual, spit explicit lyrics, an exhibitionist, love freaky girl talk w/ her girlfriends, require men to treat her like a QUEEN, etc. NONE OF THAT EQUATES TO SELLING PUSSY.”

Minaj concluded by revealing ‘Bed’ was at Number One in 48 countries and she was about to fly somewhere to shoot the video for it. “Ima be mad sexy in it,” she said. “Plus I’m meeting up w/ my dick appointment out there too. Who got check me boo?”

She then quote tweeted a fan asking if they could “go beat” Trammel up, telling them to beat him “like he stole smthn.” After the star’s fans began posting his public information online and threatening him, Trammel tweeted: “Please recommend GREAT lawyers. I’m getting bullied, told to die, kill myself, people saying they’ll find me & kill me & etc.

“My phone number, family addresses & more has been put all over the internet. I will NOT stand for this, because someone directed them to do this.”

Recently, Minaj announced a joint tour with Future. Tickets are available for purchase here. The pair will arrive in the UK for a series of arena shows next March.
