Katy Perry: “I’m not going to go straight into making another record”

"I feel like I've done a lot"

Katy Perry has revealed that she is taking a break from music after the conclusion of her latest tour.

The pop star released her fifth studio album ‘Witness’ in June 2017. In a four-star reviewNME said it found her “pushing the sleek, chart-friendly empowerment of ‘Roar’ and ‘Firework’ even further, into socially aware electropop territory, like ‘The Fame’ period Lady Gaga doing an evening class at SOAS.”

Speaking to Footwear News, Perry said: “I’ve been on the road for like ten years, so I’m just going to chill. I’m not going straight into making another record.”

Perry added: “I feel like I’ve done a lot. I feel like I’ve rung the bell of being a pop star very loudly, and I’m very grateful for that.”

The singer also said that she doesn’t feel she has to prove herself anymore, adding that this is now liberating and “freeing” for her.

Perry said: “I love making music and I love writing…but I don’t feel like I’m part of a game anymore. I just feel like I’m an artist. I don’t feel like I have to prove anything, which is a freeing feeling.”

Reviewing Perry’s live shows earlier this year, NME said: “Finishing the show in a flourish of sparkling pyro accompanying the always euphoric ‘Firework’, Perry can be reassured that she’s still at the top of her game…”

“In amongst the banter and the gimmicks were countless fizzing pop songs, performed by proper pop star. Visually captivating, vocally impressive, and most importantly, impossibly good fun.”
