Coldplay announce new ‘A Head Full Of Dreams’ documentary plus live tracks

Including their Glastonbury performance with Barry Gibb

A new Coldplay documentary has been announced by Amazon, using footage filmed over the band’s 20 year history.

The film is titled A Head Full of Dreams after the band’s 2015 album of the same name. It will be available to stream on November 16 via Amazon Prime Video in the UK, USA, Australia and New Zealand, then globally shortly afterwards.

You can watch the first trailer for the film below, which features early footage of the groups earliest days, including clips of Chris Martin in braces promising that the then-unknown band will one day be “absolutely huge”.

It also references the hardships the band have faced along the way, including critical backlash to their music, EMI’s major profit plunge after their fourth LP ‘Viva La Vida‘ was repeatedly delayed, and inner-band tensions.

“We’ve been through so much together, but what’s incredible to me is that we’ve stuck together as a pack,” says Martin in the trailer.

The film was directed by Mat Whitecross, the man behind the Oasis documentary Supersonic, the 2012 comedy based around the Stone Roseslegendary 1990 gig Spike Island and the Ian Dury biopic Sex & Drugs & Rock & Roll.

Whitecross first met the band members before they’d even formed, and has been filming the group since their first rehearsal in a student bedroom. He has directed videos for Coldplay tracks like ‘Paradise’, ‘A Sky Full Of Stars’ and ‘Adventure Of A Lifetime’.

A Head Full of Dreams was filmed in part on the band’s A Head Full of Dreams Tour, which is the third-biggest of all time. It also makes use of an extensive archive of behind the scenes and live footage, as well as new interviews with the band.

Along with the new documentary, Coldplay have announced three new live recordings. Among them is their cover of The Bee Gees‘ ‘Stayin’ Alive’ when they headlined Glastonbury in 2016, and were joined by Barry Gibb.

The other two tracks are ‘Us Against the World (Live in Leipzig)’ and ‘Don’t Panic (Live in Paris’).

A special advanced screening of the film will be held in London ahead of its release and will include a Q&A with  Whitecross. Fans will be eligible to win tickets by streaming Coldplay on Amazon Music between 10am on October 26th and 11:59pm on November 2nd.

Meanwhile, Coldplay’s profits from touring last year were recently revealed.

The band played 63 shows in 2017, including shows in the UK, Asia, Europe and North America. Their last show was at the Estadio Ciudad de La Plata in Argentina. The group’s touring company, Flock Of Birds, reported a turnover of £63,667,007 in their accounts. Their profit for 2017 was reported at £38.4 million.
