Billy Joel announces Wembley Stadium show for 2019 – is Glastonbury on the cards?

The Piano Man heads to London...

Billy Joel has announced that he’ll play a massive show at London’s Wembley Stadium next year.

The ‘Piano Man’ icon will play Wembley on Saturday June 22, marking his only UK date of 2019. Tickets will go on sale from 9am on October 19 and you can buy them here.

Although Joel states that it’ll be his only UK performance in 2019, it’s worth noting that the show falls on the same weekend as Glastonbury – which means that a surprise performance at Worthy Farm could always be in order.

The return to Wembley comes after Joel previously played the venue in 2016, as well as a headline show at Manchester’s Old Trafford stadium earlier this year.

Earlier this year, Joel roped in Bruce Springsteen to appear at his 100th Madison Square Garden show.

It came as he played the New York venue in July, marking a milestone in his long running series of monthly shows at the arena.

As he introduced The Boss, Joel told his crowd of the enduring friendship between the two stars.

“We go back a long way. We were both on the same record label and got dumped by the same label”, Joel told the crowd.

“We go way back. This is an Oscar winner, a Grammy winner and Tony Award winner! Please welcome Bruce Springsteen”.

The pair then proceeded to perform Springsteen’s ‘Tenth Avenue Freeze Out’, before following it with the familiar strains of ‘Born To Run’.
