Joanna Lumley is hosting a Black Eyed Peas TV special and everyone is confused

Who saw this coming?

Confusion has reigned supreme after the Black Eyed Peas announced a TV special hosted by the unlikeliest of famous faces.

ITV has confirmed that the group will celebrate their 20th anniversary with a one-hour special featuring exclusive performances – but it’s the choice of host Joanna Lumley that has raised eyebrows.

Although the Ab Fab icon previously collaborated with will.i.am on a TV documentary, their friendship has still attracted surprise among those who weren’t aware of the original pairing.

‘The Black Eyed Peas being mates with Joanna Lumley *definitely* tops Pele and Mick Hucknall as the weirdest celebrity friendship’, one Twitter user said.

Another joked: “*throws dart* Joanna Lumley to host… *spins wheel* …a televised celebration of… *rolls dice* …two decades of The Black Eyed Peas.”

Others likened it to a creation recorded in Alan Partridge’s dictaphone, which the sitcom character famously used to document his ideas for the unlikeliest of TV shows.

Speaking of the show, will.i.am said: ““I have my family, my Black Eyed Peas family and my Voice UK family. I’ve always felt at home in the UK and, as a group, we continue to feel Big Love from our fans over here.  We are excited to be sharing the backstory of our journey to success with you all.”

Joanna Lumley added: “I’m both a friend to and a big fan of The Black Eyed Peas. It’s very exciting to be part of this and I’m looking forward to it enormously.”

The show is expected to air in late 2018.
