Eminem references Ariana Grande and Manchester Arena attack in new freestyle rap ‘Kick Off’

The Detroit rapper goes back to his roots in the hometown-filmed new visuals

Eminem has released a new 11-minute freestyle called ‘Kick Off’, in which he references the bombing at Ariana Grande‘s Manchester Arena show. Check out the video below.

Unveiling the clip on Twitter, Marshall Mathers said that his new rap battle movie Bodied got him feeling nostalgic about tackling freestyle.

Filmed at the rapper’s “old stomping grounds” of The Shelter at St. Andrew’s in Detroit, the simplistic video shows Eminem deliver an impassioned rap down the camera lens.

“I’ve always looked at battle rap as competition or war,” Mathers introduces the new cut. “And the main objective is to destroy. Completely fucking obliterate your opponent. By saying anything and everything, whatever the fuck you can, to get a reaction from the crowd. So nothing’s off limits.”

During ‘Kick Off”s first verse, Eminem references last year’s suicide bombing at Manchester Arena.

Mathers raps: “Like an Islamic regime, a jihadist extreme radical / Suicide bomber that’s seeing / Ariana Grande sing her last song of the evening / And as the audience from the damn concert is leaving / Detonates the device strapped to his abdominal region/ I’m not gonna finish that for obvious reasons.”

Elsewhere, the rapper takes aim at other artists with the line: “The bear you don’t want to poke is back, the backbone of rap/ Your fucking lead singles are my bonus tracks.

Meanwhile, Eminem’s Bodied was released in the US last month. The anticipated film is billed as a satirical send-up of the rap battles that proved integral to the early stages of Mathers’ career.

Upon the movie’s release, Eminem surprised fans in Detroit by booking an entire cinema screen to allow them to watch Bodied for free.

As well as producing the movie, it was recently rumoured that Eminem had helmed the official soundtrack.
