Madonna accuses Lady Gaga of ripping her off in widely used ‘A Star Is Born’ quote

The long-standing pop feud continues

Madonna has taken aim at A Star is Born‘s Lady Gaga, suggesting that the singer and actor ripped off one of her quotes during the film’s press tour.

In October, fans picked up on Gaga repeatedly using the same quote as she discussed working with co-star Bradley Cooper on the hit remake. “There can be 100 people in a room and 99 of them don’t believe in you, but all it takes is one and it just changes your whole life…” she was heard saying in multiple interviews.

Now, the Queen of Pop – who once labelled Gaga as “reductive” – has suggested that the ‘Poker Face’ artist lifted the line from one of her own 1980s interviews.

Madge posted the vintage clip to her Instagram story, in which she says: “If there are 100 people in a room and 99 say they liked it, I only remember the one person who didn’t.”

Madonna described Lady Gaga’s output as “reductive” back in 2012, when it was suggested to her that ‘Born This Way’ was heavily influenced by the 1989 track, ‘Express Yourself’.

During Gaga’s Five Foot Two Netflix documentary in 2017, the singer addressed Madonna’s comments – calling her out for not discussing the issue in private. “Telling me you think I’m a piece of shit through the media is the same as a guy passing me a note saying ‘my buddy thinks you’re hot’,” she said.

Meanwhile, last month saw Lady Gaga offer pizza, supplies and support to a California disaster shelter following wildfires in the US state. The pop star was previously forced to evacuate her own Malibu home.
