Song Stories: Fall Out Boy – ‘Thnks Fr Th Mmrs’

Featuring Kim Kardashian and a cast of chimps.

They’ve come a long long way, baby. Chicago’s Fall Out Boy may have found fame with fizzing pop-punk anthems in the mid-noughties, but they’ve never been constrained in their songwriting and have recently released M A N I A, an album of electro-influenced bangers that we reckon is pretty damn good indeed. Here, they hark back to one the hit singles that marked their foray into more diverse material. ‘Thnks Fr Th Mmmrs’, included in their 2007 blockbuster Infinity On High, was a more ambitious piece of work than the band had previously explored, opening with strings and boasting an unusual structure.

NME chatted with Fall Out Boys Pete Wentz and Patrick Stump to get the scoop behind the song, and they revealed that it was years before their fully able to master playing the cracking pop song they’d written. In addition to this, they delve into its lavish video, which features a pre-mega-fame Kim Kardashian and a cast of chimps – one of whom almost maimed Patrick right in front of the cameras. “I will never do that again,” he now says succinctly. The track itself, though, has become a firm fan favourite over the years. Here, then, is how ‘Thnks Fr Th Mmrs’ came to be.
