The pop star belted out one of the grunge band's iconic songs while in Japan

Harry Styles has covered a Nirvana classic while in Tokyo. Scroll down to see a clip of his performance now.

While the pop star wasn’t in the Japanese city to play an official gig, he still found time to join up with a band of musicians and give his take on the grunge band’s iconic track ‘Smells Like Teen Spirit’.

Footage soon emerged online of the performance, in which Styles could be seen wearing novelty 2019 glasses and chewing gum.

Fans reacted to the clip with excitement. “I’ve never in my entire insignificant existence ever thought I’d see Harry singing this anthem,” one wrote. “I feel blessed beyond words can describe.” Another added: “THIS IS THE GREATEST THING IVE EVER SEEN OR HEARD YES HARRY OMFG.” Many Twitter commenters also expressed a need for a full cover of the track from Styles. Meanwhile, Styles is in demand elsewhere, with The 1975’s Matty Healy recently reaching out to him in an effort to produce the former One Direction member’s next album. “Hey @Harry_Styles me and George [Daniel, The 1975’s drummer] really wanna produce your next album hmu if you wanna it’s cool if not tho I know you’re like super busy etc love!!!!!”

Later, Healy tweeted again on the subject, writing: “I need @Harry_Styles new number I’m defo blocked.”

Styles his self-titled debut solo album in 2017. In a three-star review, NME said: “‘Harry Styles’ is not, by any measure, an album that sounds like 2017 – One Direction’s fans have grown up, and wisely, Harry’s music has too.”
