‘Saturday Night Live’ addresses Ryan Adams and R Kelly allegations

During this week's 'Weekend Update' segment

Saturday Night Live addressed the recent allegations against Ryan Adams and R Kelly in last night’s episode.

During the hit US show’s ‘Weekend Update’ feature, which casts an eye over news from the past seven days, comedian Michael Che referenced allegations that Adams engaged in “explicit online communications” with an underage fan.

“The FBI is investigating whether singer-songwriter Ryan Adams committed a crime by engaging in sexually explicit communications with a fourteen-year-old fan,” Che said, backed by an image of Adams.

“Just another example of a white musician doing something a black musician did first,” he added as the photo switched to Kelly.

Kelly could soon be facing indictment after a new video of him allegedly assaulting an underage girl emerged. The artist has received a multitude of complaints following the recent Surviving R Kelly documentary.

Meanwhile, Phoebe Bridgers issued a new statement today (February 17) in response to the allegations of abuse made against Adams.

“Guys, if your friend is acting fucked up, call them out,” she said in the post. “If they’re actually your friend, they’ll listen. That’s the way this all gets better.”

Adams’ ex-wife Mandy Moore was also amongst women detailing alleged sexual misconduct, manipulation and abuse in a recent New York Times article.

Through his lawyer earlier this week, Adams denied the “extremely serious and outlandish accusations” that he claimed were “grousing by disgruntled individuals” who blamed him for “personal or professional disappointments”.

Ryan Adams’ scheduled album ‘Big Colors’ has been cancelled in light of the claims. The LP was due to be released on April 19.
