Queen and Adam Lambert opened the 2019 Oscars tonight (February 24) with a live performance.
The band played instead of the traditional opening monologue, as the ceremony goes ahead with no host for the first time in 30 years.
Kevin Hart was due to present the annual awards event but pulled out days after being confirmed when old homophobic tweets he had posted resurfaced.
Queen performed a two-song medley to kick off the ceremony, beginning with ‘We Will Rock You’ before segueing into ‘We Are The Champions’. The stars of Hollywood, including Javier Bardem and Lady Gaga, could be seen enjoying the performance from the crowd. Watch footage below.

The 2019 Oscars is currently underway at Los Angeles’ Dolby Theater, where the likes of Christian Bale, Gaga, and Olivia Colman are all in the running to pick up trophies. Gaga and her A Star Is Born co-star Bradley Cooper will also perform at the bash, playing their duet ‘Shallow’.

Meanwhile, Adam Lambert recently confirmed that he has a cameo in Bohemian Rhapsody, the Queen biopic that is nominated for Best Picture tonight. The singer, who has fronted the band since 2011, shared a photo of himself in his costume from the movie following reports that he had a “very, very mysterious role” in the film.
The moment in question sees Mercury (played by Rami Malek) speaking to his girlfriend Mary Austin (Lucy Boynton) on the phone at a road stop when Lambert approaches him. Lambert, wearing a trucker cap and sporting bushy facial hair, gazes at him longingly for what is suggested to later unfold as a public bathroom tryst.
