Flying Lotus teases return with mysterious message at SXSW

“Fire is coming... Flying Lotus,” the image read

Flying Lotus seems to have teased a return with a mysterious message being spotted inked on the pavement at SXSW festival in Austin, Texas.

The image reads, “Fire is coming… Flying Lotus,” and the musician retweeted the picture, which you can view below.

Flying Lotus – real name Steven Ellison – last released an album in 2014, titled ‘You’re Dead!’ NME labelled it ‘madly inventive’ in a four-star review and said it “takes hip-hop and jazz as starting points, beats them both to death and then brings them back to life in an almost unrecognisable form.”

FlyLo followed up the output in 2018 with several new tracks from his Blade Runner Black Out 2022 Soundtrack. It had previously been announced that FlyLo had scored the new Blade Runner short film. The animated clip takes place between Ridley Scott’s original movie – set in 2019 – and the sequel, Blade Runner 2049.

Song titles included ‘FACE Smasher’, ‘More Human’, ‘Broken Night (LOVE THEME)’ and ‘BATTLEFIELD’. The seventh track, ‘PERFECT – CHOO CHOO’, is an outtake from sci-fi thriller Perfect – and saw FlyLo team up with Atwood-Ferguson.

Elsewhere, FlyLo has been busy releasing the movie Kuso and creating a 3D live show. He also soundtracked an episode of Atlanta. Plus, he also has plans to score and executive produce a new anime series on Netflix.
