Madlib has returned with his new collaboration with Black Thought and Your Old Droog ‘Reekyod’ – listen down below.
The producer has dropped his first new single since 2021, and also marks his first release on his brand new label Madlib Invazion. It sees him join forces with Black Thought of The Roots and Ukrainian-American rapper Your Old Droog.
Black Thought said of the collaboration: “This is strictly for the honorees. Madlib is in his bag per usual and YOD is more than a force to be reckoned with. Simply complex, this piece is high art. Triple threat. Instant classique.”
Your Old Droog added: “It’s an honor to be inducted into the heavyweight class of hip-hop. To be able to spar with one of the greatest MCs on a beat by the greatest producer is a dream come true.” He also hinted at a potential collaboration to come in the future: “Look out for the Madlib x YOD album coming soon.”

Madlib last released music in 2021, with his collaborative album with Four Tet ‘Sound Ancestors‘. Four Tet shared the album had been years in the making, adding: “[Madlib] is always making loads of music in all sorts of styles and I was listening to some of his new beats and studio sessions when I had the idea that it would be great to hear some of these ideas made into a Madlib solo album.

“I put this concept to him when we were hanging out eating some nice food one day and we decided to work on this together with him sending me tracks, loops, ideas and experiments that I would arrange, edit, manipulate and combine.
He continued: “I was sent hundreds of pieces of music over a couple of years stretch and during that time I put together this album with all the parts that fitted with my vision.”
